a break from all the stuff

This was three weeks ago
(and I only synced my iphone photos a few days ago)

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the internet these days. (Hence the lack of posts this week.) There are too many beautiful and cool images and blogs and—things. Keeping up seems impossible and futile, if that's not redundant. I'm sure I'll be back soon—there's too much that's beautiful and cool, after all. But in the meantime, more important things: Charlie turned nine (most important of all), the weather has been crazy warm (no snow this winter, please!), I really liked this book, and I'm liking the beginning of this one. And having read this, I'm hoping to see the movie too.

Gold flower band

This Me & Ro daisy ring couldn't be sweeter. Spotted via Jessica's pinterest page (and you should read her fantastic blog too).

Comes with just three flowers too
...and a silver variation with one bigger flower

nice shoes

Sam Edelman shoes here

Ankle strap with grommets? Slight platform? Super-high, not-too-chunky heel? I'm sold.

These are equally great and impractical:

Esther platform pump by Loeffler Randall

(Also, how cute is Jessie Randall in the current Matchbook?) And finally:

Marais closed-toe wedge

If I were being picky, I'd make this heel a little higher. But the gray suede is lovely, and the slim ankle strap is perfect.

tricky child o' mine

My spinning instructor played this in class yesterday. (By the way, she's completely inspiring: sweet but commanding, full of energy, and six months pregnant. And she wears the hell out of pigtails and a bandanna.) This perfect (though probably illegal) mashup takes me back to the 80s. Turns out Guns N Roses are an even better match for Run DMC than Aerosmith was.

ferd clothing

Halter top

"Ferd" was this designer's childhood nickname. And her beautiful kids' clothing is exactly what I was talking about. Simple, easy shapes with fantastic Liberty fabrics and sweet details like bows, sashes, and puffed sleeves.

It comes in magenta too
And in a puff-sleeved dress
Madeline dress
Grey flower top
Strappy tank

ten broeck cottage

I can't remember where I first saw photographs of this house in Hudson, New York. But the blend of traditional brown cottage and boxy red addition—and the spare, perfect rooms—definitely stayed with me.
