the stereo typist on etsy

While sourcing vintage concert posters for a client, I came across these faux-vintage prints on Etsy. The Stereo Typist is a British artist with impeccable taste in music. I'm into his midcentury style and bold palettes—not to mention the bands and musicians he's chosen.

vampire weekend step

I wish I could go back in time and play this song for my younger self. I mean, I love it now, but I would have really really loved it then.

vampire weekend

Ezra (lower left) looks weirdly like my husband in this shot.
("Ezra"? I sound like such a groupie.)

My friends must be so tired of hearing me talk about Vampire Weekend. But I can't help it. Their sound is upbeat, clever, joyful—and they sound like they're having a great time making it. It's great music for a party, for a workout, for cooking. They went to my college (way after me), and though it shouldn't matter so much, I feel like they're the retroactive soundtrack to my own college years. I just *get* them. And I was so happy to read that their new album is coming in May. So here's a song for your Thursday. And another. Didn't that put you in a better mood?

monday thoughts: pop-radio guilty pleasures

I can't stop listening to this song. Or Some Nights by Fun. (Seriously, I can't avoid it; it's on the car radio every time I drive somewhere. Oh, and check out Carry On, too. Retro-cheesy in the best way.) Two more that are sounding perfect right now: Home by Phillip Phillips (I know!) and Feel Again by One Republic. These songs share a stop-and-start rhythm, and they're almost wincingly earnest (usually I like my music a little faster or more ironic), but they pull it off. Inspiring and just a little bit corny for a Monday morning. Happy week!
